Labrador Tours – Nain
Sending heartfelt thanks to all who helped make our Nain stop of the SHIELD Labrador Tour so amazing & successful!
Hearing from community members & the youth of Nain at our events was inspiring. The sharing of sexual health knowledge was awesome. We had lots of fun too! We look forward to more community building as we plan to continue SHIELD partnership events in Nain!
Special gratitude to Crystal Allen & the staff of the Nain Youth Centre, Nunatsiavut DHSD & LG Health including Adrian & Linda from the Nain clinic & Ethan Angnatok.
Here are some of the highlights from the following events:
– Girls Night Out
– Guys Jam Session
– Community Drop-In Afternoon
– Youth Music & Craft Night
Below you’ll also find the launch video for Ethan Angnatok’s “Sightless Birds” music video!
World Aids Day
Big thank you to everyone who attended our World AIDS Day “Guardian & Teens” event. We had amazing discussion, art creations, and short films.
Also grateful to Martina with Mokami Women’s Centre and Stephanie with Labrador Grenfell Health for being wonderful cohosts! Shout out to Lawrence O’Brien Arts Centre for our great partnership. Thank you Canadian Aboriginal AIDS Network (CAAN) for the extra funds that allowed us to have great art supplies & giveaways!
Mental Health First Aid For Adults Who Interact With Youth
Thanks to our strong partnership with LG Health, we were able to hold a Mental Health First Aid for Adults who Interact with Youth session, in which ten participants had their training costs covered in full. Participants learned how to deal with a plethora of mental health related crisis and had a good time getting to know one another. The event was organized by Anthony Elliott, SHIELD Youth Worker, taught by Stacey Hoffe, Mental Health and Addictions Case Manager, facilitated by the Lawrence O’Brien Arts Centre, and sexual health information breaks were held by Denise Cole, SHIELD Project Coordinator. A huge ‘thank you’ goes out to everybody who attend and who put the work in to make this event the success that it was!
