24 youth from 11 different Labrador communities came to Happy Valley-Goose Bay for a week long exploration of art, culture and technology while learning about health themes such as self-image, relationships and sexual health. These youth will now host events in their home communities over 2019-20. To learn more contact SHIELD Coordinator Denise Cole at dcole@lfchvgb.ca or call 709-896-8302 ext 224

Metal Art Fabrication with Pete Barrett
Youth aged 13-18 participated in a free metal art fabrication course hosted by the SHIELD Project and Community Youth Network NL. Led by Instructor Pete Barrett at the College of the North Atlantic in Goose Bay, NL on March 9-10, 2019, participants explored the art of copper and aluminum tooling including demonstrations, safe use of tools and transferring designs from paper to metal. Youth completed two designs, one on metal to be framed with matte board and copper leaves with soldered wire stems.
We are so incredibly grateful to Pete, the youth and all the partners who made these metal art courses possible!
